189 pp, 9 3/4" H. Green cloth with gilt lettering, black & white decoration on spine and front board, some blind stamped decoration on front board. Green pictorial endpapers. Profusely illustrated throughout with tissue-covered color frontispiece, colour and b&w plates, additional smaller b&w drawings and light green decorative borders & decorations behind the text - all present. Contents: Introduction; The Peace-Pipe; The Four Winds; Hiawatha's Childhood; Hiawatha and Mudjekeewis; Hiawatha's Fasting; Hiawatha's Friends; Hiawatha's Sailing; Hiawatha's Fishing; Hiawatha and the Pearl-Feather; Hiawatha's Wooing; Hiawatha's Wedding Feast; The Son of the Evening Star; Blessing the Cornfields; Picture-Writing; Hiawatha's Lamentation; Pau-Puk-Keewis; The Hunting of Pau-Puk-Keewis; The Death of Kwasind; The Ghosts; The Famine; The White Man's Foot; Hiawatha's Departure. Small edge tear on title page - archivally taped, a slight separation between a few page gatherings but they are still very firm in binding, light to moderate edge wear - mostly at top/bottom of spine and at corners, wrinkling at top/bottom of spine plus a few tiny tears at bottom, some darkening to edges of text block - mostly top edge, tiny dent at bottom edge of both boards.
