218 pp, 7 5/8" H. Copyright date of 1938, but this is a later printing (list of titles opposite title page concludes with 'Mystery at the Crossroads'). Green 'tweed' boards with dark green lettering & decoration on spine, dark green illustration/lettering on front board, top edge green. Dark green illustration on endpapers, showing Louise and Jean (carrying a flashlight) leaving a dilapidated house, b&w frontispiece (following contents page), showing the girls looking down cellar stairs. The number "7" appears at the bottom of the book and dust jacket spines. Slight lean to book spine, minor soiling to bottom of text block, very light browning to edges of boards, very light edge wear on boards, very light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket has several edge tears, a few tiny edge chips, two areas of light damp staining on front panel and at top edge of front flap, light fading to spine colour, light rubbing/soiling, two areas of surface paper loss on front panel - probably due to sticker removal, protected in a mylar sleeve.
