Slightly faded maroon cloth (more so on spine) with black banding, bright gilt lettering and decoration (Victorian-style fairy) on spine, black banding and decoration of front and rear boards. All edges red. B&w plates, including frontispiece, decorated half-title page. This title was originally published in the 17th century and the attribution to Aristotle probably resulted from his reputation as an expert on matters sexual. The work is divided into two sections with Part I containing the essay on "Marriage; Its Duties and Enjoyments", followed by "The Master-Piece" which covers the womb, conception and labour. Part II covers the development of the child in the womb, labour, delivery and illnesses of young children. Part II also includes: "Proper and Safe Remedies for curing all those Distempers that are Peculiar to the Female Sex", "Book of Problems", "The Secrets relating to Physiognomy", "The Midwife's Vade-Mecum; "Useful Remedies" and "Medical Receipts". Browning and tiny foxing marks on free endpapers, tiny chip on rear pastedown, 2" split in paper on rear inside hinge - holding very well, light wrinkling at top of spine, fraying and some loss of material at bottom of spine and at bottom 1/2' of rear hinge, fore-edge of boards are very slightly bowed, light wear at some corners, slight bump at corners.
