568 pp, 16mo (6 1/8" H), thin burgundy leather over card covers/spine - gold lettering and decoration on spine, top edge gilt - in slipcase. Burgundy endpapers, b&w plates, including frontispiece, decorated title page. A tale of mysterious predictions, smuggling, murder & kidnapping, set in Galloway, Scotland (as well as Cumberland, Holland & India) in the 1760s - 1780s. Light toning to fore-edge and bottom of text block, slight fading to spine colour, faint rub mark on front cover, minor edge and corner wear, two faint rub marks on spine. Slipcase has heavy edge wear and moderate rubbing on panels.
