247 pp, 6 7/8" H, red cloth with paper label on spine, top edge gilt. 15 colour plates by Rowlandson - all present, clean & bright. The fictional adventures, told in humorous verse, of a grocer's son who covets military glory and coerces his parents into buying him a commision. Scattered light foxing marks throughout the pages, light browning to the pages and to the endpapers, previous owner's small name stamp on the front pastedown, a few places where there is a slight seperation between page gatherings but pages are still held firmly, large corner crease on page 25, scattered liquid marks on the boards - mainly on the front board, a 1" x 1/4" area of red dye has run into the fore-edge of pages up to page 25, some darkening to the colour of the spine and boards, browning to the spine label.
