Green cloth with gilt lettering/borders and blind stamped decoration on spine and front board, pasted down illustration on front board. 10 full-page illustrations (including frontispiece - all present), plus additional smaller illustrations throughout the text. Extracts from "The Pickwick Papers". Contents: Chapter I: A good-humoured Christmas chapter, containing an account of a wedding, and some other sports beside, which although in their way, even as good customs as marriage itself, are not quite so religiously kept up, in these degenerate times. Chapter II: The Story of the Goblins who stole a Sexton. Chapter III: How the Pickwickians made and cultivated the acquaintance of a couple of nice young men belonging to one of the liberal professions; how they disported themselves on the ice; and how their visit came to a conclusion. New endpapers at the front of the book with a 1 1/2" x 1/2' area of surface paper damage/glue residue (from repair) on the free endpaper and a small piece glued to the pastedown, small stain at the top edge of the verso of the free front endpaper with some lighter offset on the half-title page, a tiny tear (archivally taped) at the top edge of the half-title page and at the bottom edge of the title page; the fore-edge of the frontispiece has some small faint water marks several small creases and two two tiny tears; slight separation between some page gatherings but holding firmly in binding, light toning in margins of pages, water mark at bottom corner of one illustration page with some migration into several adjacent pages, a few tiny and small faint foxing marks throughout the book, a few pages have a small bump at the bottom corner, moderate edge wear to boards and spine, wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, partial light cup ring on the rear board, several very small scuffs on the front board pastedown, browning to fore-edge and bottom of text block.
