Unpaginated, 8 1/4" H x 8 1/6" W. Oatmeal-colored cloth with black lettering on spine, black illustration on front board, colorfully patterned endpaper, color illustrations throughout. Dust jacket with $2.95 price intact. The author/illustrator's first children's book and winner of the 1959 New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Book of the Year award. Lionni later went on to win four Caldecott Honor awards. This tale (recommended for ages 3-6) is simply illustrated with colorful paper scraps. It tells the story of Little Blue (a blue dot) and Little Yellow (a yellow dot) who are best friends, although they have friends of many colors. One day, Little Blue can't find Little Yellow - he searches everywhere and when they finally find each other, they hug and hug, until they turn green! Their parents don't recognize them when they return home until the mystery is solved and all ends happily. This charming story looks at friendship and physical differences, while also introducing the concept of color blending to the young child. Scattered very small light foxing marks on both pastedown endpapers, a few small areas of glue residue on the rear hinge, the front board is lightly curled-up at the fore-edge but more so 2" in from the front edge, tiny soiling mark at bottom edge of front board, small crease at bottom corner of rear free endpaper and also slightly on the previous two pages, one page with a small sharp crease at the top corner and tear at the top of the gutter along with the previous page. Dust jacket has light browning and tiny foxing marks, light edge wear/wrinkling at the top/bottom of the spine and the flap-folds, a few very small stains at the top of the rear flap-fold, dust jacket is protected in a mylar sleeve.
