276 pp + (4 pp) publisher's advertisements, 8 1/4" H. Green cloth with elaborate gilt decoration and lettering on spine and front board, top edge gilt. B&w illustrations (all present). Set in 1850s Kentucky, this is a tale of romance and tragedy, following the wooing, engagement, wedding and family life of nature lover, Adam Moss, and his society-loving neighbor, Georgianna. A slight separation between several page gatherings but still holding firmly in binding, paper is split on inside rear hinge - holding firmly, slight toning in margins of pages, light to moderate browning to fore-edge and bottom of text block, light edge wear to boards, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine - tiny tear at bottom, green colour has faded to brown on spine and some edges of boards, spine has various small areas of colour fading which effects some of the lettering and decoration.
