292 pp + 24 pp publisher's list, 7 3/4" H. Bright red cloth with gilt lettering/banding on spine, gilt lettering/decoration and blind borders on front board. Comes with what appears to be an early facsimile dust jacket in b&w with no publisher noted. Although chipped, creased and much taped on the inside, it has wraparound captioned illustrations (including flaps) of many of the ships mentioned and titling on the spine and front panel. It has protected the book's cloth, keeping the red unusually bright. Top edge red, b&w illustrations (collated). Chapter headings: Bow Wave; An Anchor in a Grave Yard; When Chauncey Came to Kingston; The Burlington Races; The Niagara Sweepstakes; The Escape of the "Slippery Six"; The Boy Commander and the Widow; A Resurrection on the Shores of Graveyard Pond; How We Took Oswego; The Captain's Gig Goes Glove-Hunting; Yarns o' York; Apples of Ashes; Champions of Champlain; The Spoiling of the Spoilers; The Silent St. Lawrence. Some light toning to endpapers, tiny stain in top margin of pages 170 & 171, very small bump to fore-edge and a small crease at bottom corner of pages 205 to 270, light toning to fore-edge and bottom of text block, light wrinkling at bottom of spine - less at top edge. Dust jacket is protected in a mylar sleeve.
