131 pp, 7 7/8" H. Red cloth with gilt lettering/banding on spine. "It is the purpose of this book to examine some of the prose fiction written about the Canadian West, by native Westerners and others, and to attempt an estimate of the success with which it re-creates the prairie way of life. The discussion is limited to writers who have written in English; and no attempt has been made to examine all the work of any one writer, but only such parts of it as are relevant to the subject." - from the Preface. A review of this book by Wilfrid Eggleston, from the Winnipeg Free Press of Nov. 14/49, has been glued to the rear endpapers. Light browning to pages and edges of text block, light soiling on top of text block, a little darkening to edges of boards. Dust jacket has bowning on spine, flap-folds and edges; light to moderate edge wear/wrinkling; several edge tears and small/tiny chips; some small areas of dis-colouration on spine and front hinge; now protected in a mylar sleeve.
