320 pp, 8vo (8 5/8" H), hard cover in dust jacket. VOLUME II ONLY. "David Livingstone's letters are the most important source of information about his activities, beliefs and opinions. The present collection, drawn chiefly from family archives, c overs not only the whole of his career as a missionary in Bechuanaland, but also his first great crossing of the continent from Loanda to Quilimane. Extracts from a few have appeared in various biographies, but the great majority have never b e e n p u blished before. Vivid and sometimes extremely outspoken, they contain much detail about his relations with fellow missionaries, Boers and Native chiefs, and about his own journeys into the interior; they afford new insights into his re li gi ou s o ut lo ok, conceptions of missionary enterprise, scientific and linguistic interests, and medical knowledge." Very small dint and tiny stain on top of text block, soft crease/wrinkle on pages 25 to 28, very small red ink dot on front fr ee end pap er , sli ght browning to edges of text block, light wrinkling at bottom of spine, one tiny corner bump. Dust jacket has minor edge wear/wrinkling, light browning - mainly on spine and rear panel, minor soiling. Very Good/Very Good-
