"Lucie Aubrac was a young woman of Catholic and peasant background, teaching history in a Lyon's girls' school and newly married to Raymond, a Jewish engineer, when World War II broke out and divided France. Lucie and Raymond, living in the Vichy zone, soon joined the resistance movement that formed in opposition to the Nazis and their collaborators. 'We had the incredible good fortune', writes Lucie Aubrac, 'to l i v e a s ourselves - we did not have to adopt false identities or go into hiding - until the spring of 1943'. (This) is her harrowing account of the months of her most audacious participation in the Resistance: the months when, pregnant with her s ec on d c hi l d, she planned and took part in raids to free captive comrades - including her own husband, under Nazi death sentence - from the prisons of Klaus Barbie, the infamous 'Butcher of Lyon'." Very light wrinkling at top/bottom of spin e, tin y s pe ck on re ar board. Dust jacket has one tiny edge tear, light wear and wrinkling at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, scattered tiny scuff marks, very light rubbing. Very Good/Good+
