"....covers the Revolutionary period, with a detailed accounted of the 'sires' of the Unit ed States Cavalry, the Continental Light Dragoons. Then come the War of 1812 and the formation of the United States Mounted Ranger Battalions and later the United States Dragoons. The uniforms, insignia, decorations, arms, horse equipmen t , a c c o u n t rements, and saddles are described and profusely illustrated....Appended are sections defining the nomenclature of the horse, horse equipment, and arms, as well as a roster of bugle calls....The author's color plates and meticulou sl y d et ai le d dr aw in gs, reproduced from actual uniforms and equipment and official government specification, show us the cavalryman as he actually looked, wherever he was stationed, whatever his war, wherever he was sent to be a horse soldier fo r hi s c oun try ." Dust jacket has light to moderate rubbi ng, sv era l te ars all arc huva lly tape d, heavy creasing/moderate wear at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, light general edge wrinkling and soft wrinkling on spine.
