HISTORY OF THE GERMAN AIR FORCE., Philpott, Bryan.
121 Philpott, Bryan. HISTORY OF THE GERMAN AIR FORCE.
Bison, London, 1986.
192 pp, 4to (12 1/8" H), hard cover in dust jacket. Profusely illustrated with b&w and colour photographs, colour cutaways. ISBN 0861242750 "German military aviation got off to a somewhat slow start in the years before World War I but innovative aircraft designs and brilliant pilots soon established a deadly reputation in the skies over the Western Front. The Germans were pioneers too in long-distance bombing by the naval air service's Zeppelins and the later Gotha aircraft. Despite t h e restrictions imposed by the Treaty of Versailles at the end of World War I innovation continued, to be accelerated when Hitler came to power and the new Luftwaffe had its baptism of fire in Spain. The Luftwaffe went on to play a vital part in th e B litzkrieg campaigns of the early war years and came close to defeating Britain in 1940. The later war years were dominated in turn by the efforts to hold back the American bombers by day and the British by night. In the process the best Ger man p il ots became the most effective in the world, the leading German ace, Hartmann, scoring some 352 victories, while in the technical field Germany pioneered the use of jet aircraft. The present day East German air force is by far the best equ ippe d i n t he Warsaw Pact outside the Soviet Union, fielding such types as the MiG-23 and MiG-27. The new West German Luftwaffe has undergone some problems with its aircraft but with the introduction of the Tornado it now has the equipment to mat ch it s un doub ted operational efficiency. (This book) features Bryan Philpott's carefully researched text as well as photographs and artworks depicting the great and famous aircraft, the men who fought in them and their role in the great conflict s of ( the 2 0th) century. This unique contribution to the history of military aviation is sure to appeal to any aricraft enthusiast." Book is slightly cocked. Dust jacket has very light edge wear/wrinkling at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, small t ear wi th we ar (archivally taped) at top of rear hinge, tiny scuff on front flap fold, soft wrinkling at top of front panel, light rubbing. THE JEWS OF WINDSOR, 1790-1990: A HISTORICAL CHRONICLE., Plaut, Jonathan V. Foreword by Dr. Larry Kulisek.
122 Plaut, Jonathan V. Foreword by Dr. Larry Kulisek. THE JEWS OF WINDSOR, 1790-1990: A HISTORICAL CHRONICLE.
Toronto Dundurn 2007 1550027069 / 9781550027068 First Edition Soft Cover Near Fine
320 pp, square large 8vo (9" x 9"). B&w photographs. "Beginning with the first Jewish settler, Moses David, the important role that Windsor Jews played in the development of Ontario's south is mirrored in this 200-year chronicle. The founding pioneer families transformed their Eastern European shtetl into a North American settlement; many individuals were involved in establishing synagogues, schools, and an organized communal structure in spite of divergent religious, political, and economic interests. Modernity and the growing influence of Zionism and Conservative/Reform Judaism challenged the traditional and leftist leanings of the community's founders. From the outset, Jews were represented in city council, actively involved in communal organizations, and appointed to judical posts. While its Jewish population was small, Windsor boasted Canada's first Jewish Cabinet members, provincially and federally, in David Croll and Herb Gray. As the new millenium approached, Jews faced shrinking numbers, forcing major consolidations in order to ensure their survival." Interior - clean and tight with no previous ownership marks. Exterior - very minor wrinkle at top of spine.

123 Price, Alfred. PICTORIAL HISTORY OF THE LUFTWAFFE.
Osceola, WI Motorbooks International 1991 0879386401 / 9780879386405 Hard Cover Very Good+ Very Good+
168 pp, 10 1/4" H. Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs. "Here was a force that in six short years rose almost from nothing to become the terror of Europe. It was the Luftwaffe that made possible the lightning victories of the German Army during the first three years of the war. Then, gradually but inexorably, the air forces of Germany's enemies became stronger than her own, and the Luftwaffe was forced on to the defensive on each front in turn. Finally, the vast majority of its aircraft grounded for want of fuel, many of its best crews dead or in prison camps, the greater part of it could do no more than sit on the ground and wait for the end to come. But as long as the war lasted the Luftwaffe could never be ignored in the Allied calculations, for to the very end it proved capable of springing uncom- fortable surprises. Here is a step by step history of Hitler's Air Force presented in picture. To re- search the photographs and text, the author visited many of the German senior officers who survived. The result is a unique and objectively precise account of the birth, life and death of the Luftwaffe." Minor wrinkle at top of spine. Dust jacket has minor wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, very small sticker residue on front flap, tiny dent on spine, minor rubbing.

458 pp, 9 1/4" H. Signed on front free endpaper: "Eddie Richenbacker - 1967". B&w photographs. "A legend in his own lifetime, Rickenbacker was one of the earliest racing-car drivers on the national circuit, competing against all the greats of that sport's infancy and eventually owning and running the Indianapolis Speedway for twenty years. (D)uring World War I, he joined up, was sent to France with General Pershing's American Expeditionary Forces, and finally worked his way into the Air Service. (He) downed 26 enemy aircraft, became America's Ace of Aces - earning nineteen decorations for bravery in action and was universally known as 'Captain Eddie'. After the war, (he) went back into the automobile business, built his own company and his own car and finally joined General Motors. In a great financial battle he won the right of way to buy Eastern Air Lines from General Motors. (During World War II), on a 1942 Pacific mission, he and his crew crashed into the sea. They spent an incredible 24 days and nights floating in rubber rafts until rescued. The triumphs and trials of Eddie Rickenbacker have thrilled Americans for fifty years (and he) has set down the staggering record of his career and achievements in a book as spellbinding as the life it depicts." Atglen, PA Schiffer 1990 0887402070 / 9780887402074 Hard Cover Near Fine Very Good+
271 pp, 4to (11 1/4" H). Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs. "In all available archives we have sought the best photos of battle tanks used by the German armored troops from 1935 to 1945 and have assembled them here in a picture book. In selecting the photos, we stressed their technical quality and their expressiveness, with the goal of reflecting the life around the tank and the spirit of its service, emphasizing all of this in large-format reproduction. Thus an unexcelled work has been created, a volume of memories for those who formerly served, a documentation for the historically minded, a gold mine of information for model builders (inasmuch as many previously unpublished photos are presented here), and an interesting book for present-day members of armored troops."
