MERE ANARCHY., Allen, Woody.
1 Allen, Woody. MERE ANARCHY.
New York Random House 2007 1400066417 / 9781400066414 First Edition Hard Cover Near Fine Near Fine
160 pp, 8vo (8 1/2" H). "Here, in his first collection since his three hilarious classics 'Getting Even', 'Without Feathers', and 'Side Effects', Woody Allen has managed to write a book that not only answers the most profound questions of human existence but is also the perfect size to place under any short table leg to prevent wobbling. 'I awoke Friday, and because the universe is expanding it took me longer than usual to find my robe,' he explains in a piece on physics called 'Strung Out'. In other flights of inspirational sanity we are introduced to a cast of characters only Allen could imagine: Jasper Nutmeat, Flanders Mealworm, and the independent film mogul E. Coli Biggs, just to name a few. Whether he is writing about art, sex, food, or crime ('Pugh has been a policeman as far back as he can remember. His father was a notorious bank robber, and the only way Pugh could get to spend time with him was to apprehend him'), he is explosively funny. In 'This Nib for Hire,' a Hollywood bigwig comes across an author's book in a little country store and describes it in a way that aptly captures this magnificent volume: 'Actually,' the producer says, 'I'd never seen a book remaindered in the kindling section before'." Minor rubbing on boards.

ECOLOGY FOR GARDENERS., Carroll, Steven B. & Salt, Steven D.
2 Carroll, Steven B. & Salt, Steven D. ECOLOGY FOR GARDENERS.
Portland Timber Press 2005 0881926116 / 9780881926118 Reprint Very Good+ Very Good Errol D. Hooper Jr.
328 pp, large 8vo (9 1/4" H). Colour photographs, b&w drawings. "(T)he authors look at the structure, development, genetics, and reproduction of plants, the most prominent actors in garden ecosystems. They describe other garden organisms, focusing on those with the most influential roles - insects, nematodes, and microorganisms - as well as garden denizens ranging from microscopic prions to elephants. (They) explore nutrient cycles, sunlight, air, water, and the soil - the physical environment within which garden organisms live and function - and they consider the ways plants function in their environment and form communities. They then examine the intricate interactions among garden-dwelling organisms, ranging from the harmful to the beneficial. Once this groundwork is laid, they introduce humans into the garden ecosystem and consider how gardeners can use ecological principles to wisely manage their garden ecosystems. Throughout the book, the authors cite hundreds of examples drawn from personal experience and from the gardening and ecological literature. It becomes clear that gardens - whether a group of potted plants on a patio, a few beds carved out of a lawn, or extensive plantings over several acres - are indeed connected to the natural world in endless and important ways." Light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket has light edge wear/wrinkling, a few tiny dents on spine and hinges.

4 Halliday, Hugh A. (Vernon C. 'Woody' Woodward.) WOODY: A FIGHTER PILOT'S ALBUM.
Toronto CANAV 1987 0969070381 / 9780969070382 1st Printing Very Good Very Good
144 pp, 8vo (8 3/4" H). B&w photographs, maps. "The late 1930s was a time of restlessness for many young Canadians. For some, nothing short of a trip to England and a visit to the RAF recruiter could satisfy their urge for adventure. One who followed this path was Vernon C. Woodward, a British Columbian from Victoria. (This book traces Woodward's) flying career fromTiger Moths in Scotland, then on to advanced training and out to pre-war Egypt to his first posting. (When war breaks out) the young pilots are flung against a seemingly overwhelming enemy. They do their best, flying their little biplane Gladiators. Woody records his first kill as the pace of combat accelerates daily. Soon Woody's squadron is called to Greece to face even harsher odds with an onslaught of Messerschmitts and Junkers. Woody's tally of kills grows steadily, as does that of many of his mates, but one by one he is losing his friends as the unequal struggle continues. Inevitably the British must withdraw. They make their last stand on Crete, where the situtation is hopeless from the start. Soon there is not a single airworthy Hurricane and Woody and his fellow airmen must take rifle and Tommy gun in hand to fight rugged German parachutists at close quarters. In the end, the British forces made a humilitating retreat to Egypt, where Woody again faces the enemy and records his 20th and final kill, making him one of Canada's leading aces of either world war." Light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, minor edge wear to boards, large dog-ear corner crease on page leaf 19/20 and page leaf 99/100. Dust jacket has some light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine and flap-foldsm slight wrinkling at top edge.
