114 pp, 9 3/4" H. B&w photographs, tables, small fold-out map. "This paper is primarily a report on the birds seen and collected by (the author and his) assistants along the west James Bay and southern Hudson Bay coasts in 1947, and near the Moose River estuary in 1949. As a result of the work done in 1947 and 1949, over 750 specimens of birds - have been added to the collections of the National Museum of Canada. To the observations made during these two years, (he has) added the available published and unpublished reports for the coast from Moose Factory to Nelson River and an adjacent strip of hinerland about 15 miles wide. Thus the numerous records from the environs of Moose Factory, Moosonee, Attawapiskat, Fort Severn, and York Factory, all places on the tidal estuaries, are included." 321 pp, 10" H. Grey cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Reproductions of 160 colour plates by the 19th century British ornithologist John Gould (1804-1881). "The modern text for this edition has been written by Abram Rutgers, and it demonstrates just how accurate were John Gould's illustrations - despite the general lack of ornithological knowledge in the mid-nineteenth century." Slight fading to colour at top/bottom edges of spine, light toning to fore-edge and top of text block, three very tiny stains on top of text block, very light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, minor soiling on bottom of book. Dust jacket has light browning on spine and at top edge, a small light stain at top of rear hinge, creases and tear (archivally taped) at top of spine/hinges, corner crease on rear flap, light to moderate edge wear, protected in a mylar sleeve.
