1 Barfield, Thomas, editor. WAR PHOTOGRAPHY: IMAGES OF CONFLICT FROM FRONTLINE PHOTOGRAPHERS.
London Magpie 2006 1845292707 / 9781845292706 Soft Cover Very Good
320 pp, 7 3/4" H. B&w and colour photographs. "A collection of striking images of conflict from the world's most talented and courageous war photographers. These photographs of battle from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present day - many of them rarely seen before - convey the horror and the pity of war as seen by those who were there to document it. From images of compassion and companionship, suffering and bravery to visual testaments to the terrifying destructive forces of bombs and bullets, this selection of photographs - accompanied by concise descriptions to set each picture in context - offers fresh and compelling insights into the nature of war." Minor edge wear, tiny crease at bottom corner of rear cover and small crease at top edge of rear cover - migrates into a few pages.

LAKONIA., Bond, Geoffrey.
3 Bond, Geoffrey. LAKONIA.
Oldbourne, London, 1966, first edition.
200 pp, 8vo (8 3/4" H), hard cover in dust jacket. B&w photographs, frontispiece. "During the evening of 19 December 1963 the twin-screw Motor Ship 'Lakonia' slid through the grey waters of the Solent, bound for sunshine and warmer seas. Her hull and superstructure gleamed like 'a newly iced Christmas cake, for she had been recently overhauled and completely redecorated'. (651) passengers were aboard the liner for her Christmas cruise --- The 'Lakonia' began to burn on Sunday, 22 Decem b e r . Four days later she was a pitiful, smoke-grimed wreck, wallowing at the mercy of the waves. On Sunday, 29 December - just a week after the initial diaster - she slid beneath the waters of the North Atlantic to her last resting-place. (Th is ) is t he story of unfortunate, originally minor circumstances, slowly building up until they finally overwhelmed the ship, her crew and passengers. But the pattern of crew and passenger heroism is at least as great as that of any perhaps more dra ma tic di saster. Reluctant to leave the ship, the crew - and many passengers - tried desperately to overcome events and save her. There was no panic - from first to last. Air-sea-rescue, radio, telephone, and computers went into action to s ave tho se i n pe ril on the sea - and it was the first time that the system of A.M.V.E.R. (Atlantic Merchant Vessel Emergency Report), had been used in any major shipping disaster. Ships of all nationalities sped towards the stricken liner. The B riti sh f reigh ter ' Montcalm', the Argentine 'Salta', the Pakistani 'Mehi' - and then there was the ship that passed 'Lakonia' by in her hour of need ---. (This) is a graphic account of the strength and bravery of ordinary persons under threat of deat h. I t is a n open , objective and factual reconstruction of what happened." Wrinkling at bottom of spine, light browning on top of text block. Dust jacket has been price clipped, has light edge wear/wrinkling and a few tiny edge tears, ver y ligh t rubb ing. F-15 EAGLE., Braybrook, Roy.
4 Braybrook, Roy. F-15 EAGLE.
Osprey, London, 1991, first edition.
128 pp, 11 7/8" H, hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 1855321491 Profuesly illustrated with colour photographs. "Built to counter the seemingly invincible Soviet MiG-25 Foxbat, the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle has proven to be more than a match for any 'red' fighter interceptor for over 15 years. Carrying the all-seeing Hughes AN/APG-63 radar inside its massive radome, the interception capabilities of the Eagle have been matched only by its US Navy rival, the F-14 Tomcat. Although a large ae roplane, the Eagle is incredibly agile, with plenty of power from its twin afterburning Pratt & Whitney F-100 tubrofans. These allow a pilot to exploit the F-15 Eagle's suberb in-flight characteristics to the fullest extent. Entering frontline s q u adron service with the USAF's Tactical Air Command in late 1974, the F-15 has gone on to equip no less than six tactical fighter wings based in the USA, and one apiece in Germany and Japan. Five Air National Guard units also bolster the fron t li ne r anks with earlier version of the mighty Eagle. All USAF operators of the potent F-15 are graphically featured in this stunning volume. A chapter on the rarely illustrated Japanese Air Self-Defence Force complements the star-spangled F-1 5s ." Mi nor edge wear, small faint erasure mark at top of free front endpaper. Dust jacket has very light rubbing, some areas of light wrinkling at top edge. Very Good-/Very Good

By the end of the war, Gover was one of the most experienced American pilots in England, having flown with both the RAF and the Air Corps...skillfully weaves together the young flighers l e t t e r s and diary entries to create a vivid portrait of the kind of man who helped win Word War II...By the end of his war, Gover had flown 159 combat missions and had received the Silver Star, three Distinguished Flying Crosses, and eight Ai r M ed al s. 8 Crickmore, Paul F. Forewords by Robert Gilliland & B.C. Thomas. LOCKHEED SR-71: THE SECRET MISSIONS EXPOSED. REVISED EDITION.
Osprey Aerospace, London, 1997, revised edition.
262 pp, small 4to (10 13/16" H), hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 1855326817 Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs, maps, technical drawings, color plates. "Designed at the height of the Cold War to be the ultimate surveillance platform, the SR-71 was operated exclusively by the USAF's 9th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. In this new edition of Paul Crickmore's best-selling history, the fruits of an alliance between NASA and the Lockheed project (which began when NASA engineers lent a ha nd at Edwards AFB way back in 1967) are reviewed, as the 'space men' use the SR-71 for experiments on the outer edge of the atmosphere. Also new is a complete list of USAF missions flown out of Kadena, detailing duration, pilots, Reconnais s a n c e S y s tems Officers, altitude, etc. It is a fascinating addition to the history of operational flights over North Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, North Korea, Yemen, the Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, Syria, Iran and Cuba....Also revealed are details o f fl ig ht s c on du ct ed from Beale AFB, in California and RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk, England, into the Arctic Circle and over the Baltic to monitor the movements of Soviet nuclear submarines. With more than 250 illustrations, and full appendices p ro vid ing te ch ni cal sp eci fications and performance data, there is no more definitive work on this extraordinary aircraft." Small bump to top corner of rear board, tiny crease at top corner of last few pages, very small tear and bump at top of spin e. Dust ja cke t ha s ve ry m inor edge wear, light wrinkling at top of flap-folds. Very Good/Very Good+
