New York Ace (1 - 7) / TOR (9) Mass Market Paperbacks Very Good Cover Art by Steve Hickman (1-3, 9), Kinuko Craft (4), Denis Beauvais (5) & Ciruelo Cabral (6 & 7).
The first seven books of the Vlad Taltos Series, plus volume nine (8 books in total), 6 7/8" H. **Please note, volume 8 - Dragon - is not included in this grouping.** 1. Jhereg - 239 pp, Ace 1983 16th printing, ISBN 0441385540. "There are many ways for a young man with quick wits and a quick sword to advance in the world. Vlad Taltos chose the route of the assassin. To his other qualifications he added two things: The first was a smattering of witchcraft - badly thought of on Dragaera, but only a fool refuses such a weapon. The second was his constant companion, a young jhereg, its leathery wings and poisonous teeth always at Vlad's command, its alien mind psionically linked with his own. Vlad has never regretted the sorcerous bargain he made with his jhereg's mother: 'I offer your egg long life and fresh, red meat without struggle, and I offer it my friendship. I ask for aid in my endeavors. I ask for its wisdom, and I ask for its friendship'." 2. Yendi - 209 pp, Ace 1984 1st printing, ISBN 0441944566. "Back when I bargained for the wise-mouthed reptilian who sits perched on my shoulder, his mother wished me: 'Long life and good hunting'. I told her I was not a hunter. She said: 'You will be - .' She was right. My name is Vlad Taltos. I am an assassin. And this is the story of my early days in the House of Jhereg, of how I found myself in a Jhereg war, and how I fell in love with the woman who killed me." 3. Teckla - 214 pp, Ace 1987 Ist printing, ISBN 0441799779. "I'd always known they were. Teckla were lazy, stupid, cowardly peasants. Revolting. Old joke. But now they were revolting against the Empire. New joke. And a Jhereg crimelord, feeling the pinch, was popping the rebels. No joke. But the real joke? I was protecting them. Me. Lord Vlad Taltos - loyal grandson, loving husband. Jhereg. Sorcerer. Assassin. Everything the rabble hated. Not that I craved wet-nursing a mob of slogan-slobbering, doomed radical loonies, all of whom wanted me dead. Particularly since my royal peers, all of House Jhereg, also wanted me dead." 4. Taltos - 181 pp, Ace 1988 1st printing, ISBN 0441182003. "Journey to the Land of the Dead. All Expenses Paid! Not my idea of an ideal vacation, but this was work. After all, even an assassin has to earn a living. The trouble is, everyone knows that a living human cannot walk the Paths of the Dead, and return, alive, to the land of men. But being an Eastener is not exactly like being human, by Dragaeran standards anyways. Thus, the rule doesn't apply to me - I hope." 5. Phoenix - 245 pp, Ace 1990 1st printing, ISBN 0441662250. "In Gods we trust. All other pay cash. Always a good rule if you're in my line of work, but who'd think a god would take me up on it? There I was, facing certain death, when the Demon Goddess answered my prayers for rescue. Strange she should take an interest in me, considering I'm an assassin. Stranger that the Demon Goddess needs to offer me work. Well, my patron deity wants a favor, and who is Vlad Taltos to say no." 6. Athyra - 243 pp, Ace 1993 1st printing, ISBN 0441033423. "The Magnificent Seven - ? A bit of an overstatement. Minus six, actually. Which leaves one. Me - Vlad Taltos, sorcerer (sometime witch) and (ex-)assassin. Plus my two faithful jhereg. Which makes three, sort of. But even we can have a hard time when we take on the biggest hitters of the House of Jhereg. Here I thought I could retire in peace - ." 7. Orca - 290 pp, Ace 1996 1st printing, ISBN 0441001963. "Granted, walking around with two jhereg on your shoulders is not the best disguise for an ex-assassin wanted all over the Empire. But a young boy saved my life and now he needs my help. And Vlad Taltos always pays his debts. Even if it means uncovering a financial scandal big enough to bring down the House of Orca - and, if I'm lucky, the entire Empire." 9. Issola - 255 pp, TOR 2002 1st printing, ISBN 0812589173. "Okay, so maybe I've been living in the woods too long, where you can't even get a decent cup of klava first thing in the morning. So who should turn up but Lady Teldra, the courtly servant of my old friend the Dragonlord Morrolan? Teldra wants my help, because Morrolan and Aliera have disappeared, and according to Sethra Lavode, it looks like they may be in the hand of the Jenoine. Do I want to mess with them? The guys who made this place? And I thought I had problems before - . Oh, well, what's a little cosmic battle with beings who control time and space?" Interiors - two books with light to mderate browning on insideof covers, light toning to light browning to most pages, otherwise clean and tight with no previous ownership marks. Exteriors - all books have very light edge wear; one book has light edge wear, two small scratches inked out on spine and a small area of color loss on front cover due to old sticker removal; six books have faint to light minimal creases on spine, three books have a slight lean to spine, one book has a corner crease and hinge crease on front cover, two books have a tiny number stamp on bottom of text block, one book has light browning to edges of text block.

The four volumes of the "A Handful of Men" quartet - 6 7/8" H. 1. The Cutting Edge - 307 pp, 1993 first printing, ISBN 034538167X. "Beautiful Queen Inos married the loyal stableboy Rap and made him her king. Fifteen years went by, Rap and Inos were comfortable, secure, and truly happy, raising their family in the little backwater kingdom of Krasnegar, well removed from the hurly-burly of great affairs. But in far-off Hub, the old Imperor's health - and, some said, his sanity - deteriorated inexorably. The borderlands were seething. Prince Emshandar - or Shandie, as Rap knew him - found himself leading his grandather's armies into terrible battles where victory and justice hung in gravest doubt. And now the end of the millennium was at hand, ushered in by prophecies of cataclysmic upheaval on a scale never before imagined. All across Pandemia, sensible people tried to dismiss a growing sense of unease as superstitious nonsense. Then a God appeared to Rap and warned him that the prophecies spoke the least of the truth. Devastation was a certainty; total destruction loomed. The very fabric of the world was at risk. And it was all Rap's fault. The last thing in the world Rap wanted was another adventure. And it might be the last thing he would ever get - ." 2. Upland Outlaws - 299 pp, 1993 first printing, ISBN 0345384776. "The power-mad dwarf-sorcerer Zinixo had driven Emshandar V from his throne. He had shattered the ancient Protocol that kept tenuous peace among Pandemia's warlocks. And his conquest had only begun. Somehow the deposed Imperor had escaped his clutches - so far - but Shandie would soon be found. Then the Impire would be Zinixo's alone. Outlying countries would fall beneath his fist. And at long last, he would wreak fabulous revenge upon Rap of Krasnegar. For Zinixo wielded the greatest magic ever imagined: an army of slave-sorcerers bound to serve his every whim - to the death." 3. The Stricken Field - 338 pp, 1994 first printing, ISBN 0345388747. "The 'forces' opposing the tyrant (Zinixo) were paltry, their leaders few. Now as armies both magic and mundane swept across the lands, each rebel leader carried the flame of freedom to a different corner of troubled Pandemia. Shandie rode north - into disaster. Raspnex (Zinixo's warlock uncle) disappeared, pursuing his own secret plans. And Rap toiled through fetid, steaming jungles in search of a powerful troll-witch who did not want to be found - all unaware that his loved ones were far from home, and further yet from any prayer of safety." 4. The Living God - 429 pp, 1994 first printing, ISBN 034538878X. "The sorcerer Zinixo had declared himself Almighty, and none could doubt that the end of the era was at hand. Goblin hordes ravished the Impire. Dragons incinerated entire legions in the space of a heartbeat. The slave-sorcerers of the Covin practiced whatever barbarities Zinixo required. Soon would come midsummer, and the Nordland Moot, and the smell of blood upon the air. Soon the mad dwarf-sorcerer would truly reign supreme - unless Rap of Krasnegar could conjure a miracle at the end of the millennium. Rap and his rebels were recruiting any magic-users the Covin had not yet perverted. And when the time came to move against Zinixo - if it came - they would aim one single, killing blow against the tyrant. It wasn't much of a plan. But it was all they had - ." Exteriors - Part One has light browning to edges of text block and light wear on front hinge; the other books have very light edge wear.

Lest she marry a mortal man, Caer was condemned to live every second year in the form of a swan. Toronto Royal Ontario Museum 1994 0888544103 / 9780888544100 First Edition Hard Cover Near Fine Near Fine
96 pp, large 8vo (9 1/4" H). B&w and color illustrations. "Sorcerers incanting over boiling cauldrons, a witch disguised as a goose, vicious poltergeists, a woman-warrior, a dangerous enchantress - these are a few of the beings that inhabit Canada's rich folklore tradition. (This) is Edith Fowke's selection of Canadian historical legends, of British and French origin, illustrated with artifacts from the collections of the Royal Ontario Museum. Of historical legends Fowke writes, 'They are more apt to be linked to a particular place or situation, and therefore reflect a country's history and culture more than other folktales'. Although native legends are often regarded as a separate study, they sometimes share motifs with non-native lore: Tecumseh, like King Arthur and Charlemagne, is a figure who in legend will one day return to lead his people. (This book) combines historical chronicle and artifact to bring to life a vanished past and the voices of those who told the tales." A few very tiny scuffs on bottom edge of boards. THE BUMBLE BEE PRINCE. A JUNIOR PROGRAMS BOOK., Lancourt, Saul. (Alexander Pushkin.)
17 Lancourt, Saul. (Alexander Pushkin.) THE BUMBLE BEE PRINCE. A JUNIOR PROGRAMS BOOK.
New York Garden City Publishing 1940 Hard Cover Very Good - Good+ Sheilah Beckett.
Unpaginated (approx. 36 pp), 9 1/2" H. Pictorial endpapers, b&w and colour illustrations throughout, some musical notation. "This is a story of old Russia, when that faraway land was ruled by the jolly Tzar Saltan. It is the story of lovely young Militrissa who became the Tzar's bride and of Nastasia, her jealous sister, who plotted against her with their wicked nurse, Barbarischa. For a time their schemes were successful, and poor Militrissa and her little son, Prince Guidon, were tossed on the sea for many days and nights with only a barrel as their boat. How they were finally saved and how the young Prince was magically transformed into a bumble bee is all told in this exciting book. Based on an original poem by Alexander Pushkin, this bright, fanciful fairy tale has been brought joyously to life by the Junior Programs opera, 'The Bumble Bee Prince'. The opera, with its beautiful Rimsky-Korsakov music, is a favorite of children everywhere. This book follows its action closely and includes many of the principal musical themes."
