Burgundy endpapers, sepiatone plates, including frontispiece, decorated title page. **No slipcase or dust jacket.** A will, leaving a sacred diamond sacked from a temple in India to 18-year-old Rachel Verinder, leads to theft, recriminations, suicide and murder before Franklin Blake, with the assistance of Sergeant Cuff, uncovers the truth. 1936 gift inscription in ink on verso of frontispiece, browning and some tiny foxing marks on fore-edge and bottom of text block, very light edge wear to covers.

139 pp, 6 7/8" H. Pale green cloth with gilt lettering/decoration on spine and front board. Tissue-covered frontispiece and decorated title page. 7 additional plates with descriptions of the costumes on the facing pages. Preface by Rosina Filippi and a short essay on costumes. Some separation at two places between page gatherings - pages are still firmly held in binding, very light browning in margins of pages, browning to fore-edge and bottom of text block, previous owner's name and date in ink on front free endpaper, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, very light browning to spine, wrinkling/waviness in cloth on boards, light soiling to boards, tiny bump at corners.
