In this personal memoir, Priscilla Endicott chronicles the intense year she spent in Germany studying the principles of dressage with master trainer, Walter Christensen....(the book) presents a colorful view o f t h e r e m arkable world of international dressage and competition. Of primary importance are the relationships that affected the writer: her connection with her teacher, her horse, the apprentices, the riders, and other folk with whom she cam e i nt o cl o se c on tact. An inextricable part of the author's education was cultural. Through her eyes, we learn how the teaching of dressage and the German cultural spirit are mirror images, each reflecting the other...." World, Cleveland, 1946, 3rd printing.
281 pp, 8vo (8 5/16" H), hard cover in dust jacket. Color frontispiece, b&w illustrations by author. "Will James knows the horse of the Western plains and ranges better than any other American writer. Not only does (he) stand in a class by himsel f for his writing about the horse, but his vivid drawings of cowboys, horses and ranch life generally are unsurpassed. In this book, Will James tells the stories of a number of horses, good and bad, that he has known. Writing in the same c o w b o y v e rnacular that made 'Smoky', 'Lone Cowboy' and other James books so successful, and illustrating his text with better drawings than he has done for a long time, (he) here records spectacular incidents in the lives of 'Little Eage', t he h or se w ho ac te d as 'seeing eye' for a blind rancher and saved his life in the flood that followed one of the sudden range storms; of 'Bearcat', the bucking horse that nobody could ride and whose final conquest lost a job for the cowboy wh o m ast ere d h im; of hil ari ous cowboy high-jinks with borrowed horses and a couple of ghostly white equines who turned a practical joke into a stampede that had unfortunate results for the jokers; and many other stories, all of them brimmin g w ith acti on a nd r ich with the colo r of the Western range that Will James portrays so well. As a reminiscent 'round-up' of horses that the author and illustrator has ridden and owned this book is the equal of anything Will James has written. " L ight brow ning to fo re-e dge o f tex tbloc k, minor bump at corners, small area of slight fading at bottom of rear hinge/spine, small faint watermark at bottom of rear board, wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket has small chips and tear s - s ome wi th cr eases, mode rate t o heavy edge wear, darkening to spine and flap-folds/edges, light rubbing/soiling, tiny scuff on spine. Very Good/Fair

16 Moir, John S., editor. Introduction by John Webster Grant. THE CROSS IN CANADA: VIGNETTES OF THE CHURCHES ACROSS FOUR CENTURIES.
Toronto Ryerson Press 1966 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good-
247 pp, 8 3/4" H. "This anthology of vignettes illustrating the part played by all branches of the Christian church in Canadian development offers glimpses into church life - from Jacques Cartier's planting the cross in the Gaspe to the remarkable Christian pavilion at Expo '67. Here are such different personalities as Jeanne Mance, founder of Canada's first hospital; Brother Andre, the modern miracle worker of Montreal and Norman MacLeod, the hero-tyrant of his own congregation in Cape Breton. Here, too, are brief pictures of the churches' many-sided service to Canada - a Presbyterian long communion, a Methodist camp meeting, the horrible deaths of Jesuit missionaries and the gallantry of a padre on the beach at Dieppe. We meet men and women whose names are known to every Canadian, and others whose lives of service were passed in obscurity. Drama, sorrow, humour and inspiration are found in this tribute to the cross in Canada." Very light edge wear, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket has light browning at top/bottom edges - also on spine and flap-folds; one small edge tear (taped); some tape on top/bottom inside edges, minor edge wear.
