THE BARE FACTS: MY LIFE AS A STRIPPER., Ample, Annie.
4 Ample, Annie. THE BARE FACTS: MY LIFE AS A STRIPPER.
Toronto Key Porter 1988 1550130943 / 9781550130942 First Edition Very Good+ Very Good+
177 pp, 8 3/4" H. B&w photographs. "She was notorious for taking off her clothes. Movies, magazines and TV shows, and fame as 'the girl with the million dollar chest' after her breasts were insured by Lloyds of London, helped create her very successful career as celebrity stripper, 'Annie Ample'. But behind all the hype was a real person. (Annie) looks back candidly on her turbulent childhood in a small town in California and her showbiz start as a 'go-go' dancer in a local club. 'Annie Ample' was the ingenuous character she devised to exploit the sex industry rather than be exploited by it. Whether she is recalling her narrow escapes from lascivious film producers, her famous plastic surgery, her wild nights with the jet set or the stampede of the paparazzi when she went sunbathing at Cannes, Annie's irrepressible sense of humor and earthy revelations make her story a compelling read, even when it borders on the tragic." Minor wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket has minor wrinkling at top/bottom of spine and at top of front flap.

7 Brockhouse, Robert. THE ROYAL ALEXANDRA THEATRE: A CELEBRATION OF 100 YEARS.
Toronto McArthur 2007 155278648X / 9781552786482 First Edition Very Good Very Good+ Edward Burtynsky, photographer.
346 pp, 11 1/4" H. Profusely illustrated in colour, b&w and sepiatone with photographs/reproductions. "It was one of those grand civic gestures so loved by the aristocracy of the Gilded Age: a gift to Toronto meant to call the world's attention to its blossoming as a great city. The giver was Cawthra Mulock, 'the boy millionaire', one of the wealthiest men in Canada. The gift was the Royal Alexandra, a magnificent new theatre built - with no regard to cost - to equal the most splendid houses of London, Paris and New York. It was to be the lodestar of North American theatres, attracting the finest performers and the very best in dramatic art to a city that still smarted under the nickname 'Hogtown'. If Cawthra Mulock had known what obstacles lay in the way, he might never have broken ground. He could not have foreseen the cut-throat rivals who would seek to bankrupt him; nor the two World Wars; nor the coming of the movies, radio and television; nor the Great Depression that would close every other theatre in the country. This book tells the story of a Canadian national landmark and beloved Toronto institution, and of the remarkable, dogged and devoted champions - from Mulock to Mirvish - who have kept it alive, thriving and triumphant over 100 years." Small crease at top edge of pages 193 to 204., light waviness to edges og text block, very light wrinking at bottom of spine. Dust jacket very minor edge wrinkling, very minor rubbing, very soft wrinkle on rear panel.

NO ESCAPE FROM ADVENTURE., Bruce, Michael, Sir. 11th Baronet of Stenhouse and Airth.
8 Bruce, Michael, Sir. 11th Baronet of Stenhouse and Airth. NO ESCAPE FROM ADVENTURE.
New York Hastings House 1955 Very Good Good-
263 pp, 8vo (8 1/4" H). B&w photographs. "A financial disaster prevented (Sir Michael Bruce) from following the family tradition of becoming an officer in the crack Royal Regiment known as 'The Gunners', so he enlisted in the British South African Police. At seventeen, he shot his first man; at eighteen he hunted a double-murderer across the velds of Rhodesia. By the time he was twenty-four he had fought (and was twice wounded) at ill-fated Gallipoli and on the western front through the Great War of 1914-19. Excitement dogged his footsteps as he sailed round the Horn in a windjammer; fought in a Brazilian revolution; crossed the Andes on foot; was nearly killed in a stampede of wild cattle; and was the sole survivor of a gold-seeking hunt in the Amazon. Back in England, jobless, he did a stint as a reporter on a gossip 'sheet'; became a stunt actor, then press agent, in the movies; and in 1938, on the continent, established an underground for Jews fleeing from Hitler's persecution, subsequently himself falling into the hands of the Gestapo. At Dunkirk in World War II, Sir Michael ferried British soldiers across the Channel, then got into the RAF - and into more hair-raising incidents." Bequest bookplate on free front endpaper, slight browning to endpapers, light browning to edges of text block, slight browning on spine, light wrinkling at top of spine, small label from bookstore on rear pastedown. Dust jacket has several small edge tears and creases, small chip at top of spine, creases at bottom of front panel, minor foxing at top inside edge, minor rubbing and soiling.

THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS., Burton, Tim.
9 Burton, Tim. THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS.
New York Hyperion Books for Children 1993 1562824112 / 9781562824112 First Edition. Very Good+ Very Good Tim Burton.
Unpaginated, oblong (9 1/4" H x 11 1/4" D). First edition (stated and with complete number line). Illustrated in Tim Burton's characteristicly eerie style. "In all the world, there's no place like Halloweenland and Jack Skellington is Halloween's most important figure. It's Jack who devises Halloween's most macabre tricks and frights, and he's done it year after year with delight. But this year, something isn't quite right: Jack has grown bored with the usual Halloween pranks, and the joy of seeing shock and horror on people's faces has faded. One night, while out for a walk in the woods, Jack stumbles upon something he's never seen before: a strange door carved into a tree. Stepping through the door, Jack stumbles into a world unlike any he's ever known. He finds himself in a bright, cheerful, colorful place called Christmas Town. Immediately captivated by all the Christmas sights - shining tinsel, sparkling lights, gaily wrapped presents, and sweet confections - Jack knows that he must somehow find a way to become part of it all. And Santa Claus himself provides the key as Jack decides to bring Christmas to Halloween - with Jack starring in Santa's role!" Minor rubbing on rear board. Dust jacket has some areas of very light edge wrinkling, very light rubbing on rear panel, tiny dent on rear hinge.

Taken ensemble, the forty-nine astonish and cheer and enlighten their progenitor. He's astonished that, as nearly as anyone can make out, I wrote them. Last but not least; he's enlightened via the realization that, whereas times can merely change, an individual may grow." From the author's Foreword.
