The first six volumes in the "Castle" series, plus volume eight - 7 books in total, 6 7/8" H. **Please note: volume 7 - Castle Spellbound - is not included in this grouping.** 1. Castle Perilous - 249 pp, 1988, ISBN 044109418X. "Yesterday he was an unemployed philosophy major. Today he lives in a castle - that's worlds away from home. His best buddy looks like seven feet of walking shag carpet, and the girl in his life's from California. In Castle Perilous, everyone has some magical talent, and behind each of the 144,000 doors there's a new world to explore. There's only one hitch. There's a reason why it's called Castle Perilous." 2. Castle for Rent - 195 pp, 1989, ISBN 0441094066. "The king of Castle Perilous is time-trapped in that weird realm known as New York City. The other castle dwellers are lost and scattered throughout thousands of equally bizarre, equally barbaric, universes. And what's worse, their vacancy is being filled by nasty blue demons. Will anyone make it back in time to thwart the invasion? Or will Castle Perilous become a Castle for Rent?" 3. Castle Kidnapped - 216 pp, 1989, ISBN 0441094082. "The magic of Castle Perilous has gone awry, dumping its guests into wildly unlikely worlds. Computer whiz Jeremy, who never comes closer to exercise than absolutely necessary, is trapped on the planet of golf-crazed dinosaurs. Our hapless hero Gene finds himself on the planet of Amazon women, claimed as the love slave of their buxom queen. Unless Lord Incarnadine can pull the plug on his malfunctioning Castle, he's going to be facing the empty walls of Castle Kidnapped." 4. Castle War! - 233 pp, 1990, ISBN 0441092705. "Last year's little conflict with the Hosts of Hell has left the Castle Perilous a bit out of whack. Before Jeremy can write a program to stabilize the cosmos, an evil mirror version of the Castle appears - complete with a hostile army of alter egos drawn from its own 144,000 inverted worlds. A love-starved computer and animated chain saw don't help matters much. It's war." 5. Castle Murders - 243 pp, 1991, ISBN 044109273X. "How do you catch a killer in a castle with 144,000 back doors? The scene of the crime: a party at Castle Perilous. The victim: a nobleman who is certainly not the life of the party. The body is soon identified as the magic-dabbling viscount named Oren - but a corpse by any other name still smells of foul play! At any rate, mystery loves company, and everyone at Castle P. is scrambling for clues, alibis, and the murder weapon itself. Which is bound to show up - in the next victim!". 6. Castle Dreams - 228 pp, 1992, ISBN 0441094147. "Lord Incarnadine, King of the Realms Perilous, is dead as any one of the doornails in his wacky Castle P.'s thresholds to adventure. A would-be-royal rapscallion has all the Castle inmates spell-befuddled and battling for control of the throne. Meanwhile, Gene finds himself riding shotgun for a suntanned Amazon on the faster-than-light frontier - and Lord Inky discovers that there's risky business to be had everywhere - even in the shadowy world beyond the tomb!" 8. Bride of the Castle - 181 pp, 1994, ISBN 0441001203. "When Gene and Linda decide to get married, Castle Perilous lives up to its name! Seems the happy groom would rather face a horde of barbarians than his wedding guests - and that's a wish he's granted when he crosses a certain sinister portal. Now Gene is fighting the battle of his life - but he'll soon learn that that's nothing compared to the fury of a bride scorned. It's going to be one insane wedding day!" Interiors - Vols. 6 & 8 have a bookstore stamp and and old price in ink on first page, also a small bump at bottom corner of some pages at rear; most vols. have very light or light browning to pages - one has moderate browning. Exteriors - Vols. 6 & 8 have several corner creases on covers, five vols. have a tiny number stamped on bottom of text block, most vols. have light browning on some edges of text blocks, four vols. have a slight spine lean and two have light spine creasing.

4 Innes, Michael. APPLEBY AND THE OSPREYS.
London Gollancz 1986 0575039167 / 9780575039162 First British Edition Hard Cover Very Good+ Very Good
188 pp, 8vo (8" H). "Clusters (a great English country house) is being troubled by bats - bats in the belfry, bats around the moat, as Lord and Lady Osprey complain to their luncheon guests, who include Sir John Appleby, sometime Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and, though now retired, still keenly interested in any puzzling crime. In the matter of the bats he is unhelpful, but soon he faces the challenge of a murder: the murder of Lord Osprey, stabbed with an oriental dagger, and in the library too. The conventions are properly observed. There's an omniscient butler, Bagot. The moat gleams darkly, guarding its secrets. Inspector Ringwood sets up his 'incident room' in the ballroom, which dazzles with mirrors, chandeliers and trompe l'oeil. The house guests include another title, a QC, and two or three experts on numismatics. And that last point takes us to the heart of the mystery: where, in this vast architectural pile, did Lord Osprey conceal his collection of antique coins? There are clues: the key in the library, the skiff on the moat, the intruder glimpsed through the French doors; even, possibly, the local publican's claim that an Osprey has raped his daughter. Appleby solves the problem with all his usual wit, ingenuity and aplomb. And the bats have the last word: very startling so." Previous owner's name in ink on free front endpaper, book is slightly cocked. Dust jacket has minor edge wrinkling, soft crease at top of rear flap.

THE END OF ORDER: VERSAILLES 1919., Mee, Charles L., Jr.
6 Mee, Charles L., Jr. THE END OF ORDER: VERSAILLES 1919.
New York E.P. Dutton 1980 0525098100 / 9780525098102 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good-
301 pp, large 8vo (9 1/2" H). "The first world war and the Versailles Treaty that followed produced the most serious upheaval in the long and stormy course of modern world history. Four great empires - Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey, and Russia - were part of the war's rubble. Far from restoring the world to order, the diplomats who met in 1919 at Paris and at Versailles plunged the world again, this time irretrievably, into the chaos of the twentieth century. It was the end of order. At three o'clock on the afternoon of May 7, 1919, the head of the German delegation to the Paris Peace Conference entered a room in the Trianon Palace of Versailles and was 'dazzled and disoriented by the sudden explosion of sunlight reflected in the vast mirrors, the chandeliers and white walls'. Brockdorff-Rantzau was further bewildered by the Treaty that was presented to him - 'a mass of cross references and changed paragraphs' covering 200 printed pages and 140 articles. Yet nobody had studied the document - not the barrel-chested, shrewd, ferocious Clemenceau, commonly called 'The Tiger'; not the mercurial and crafty Lloyd George; and not Woodrow Wilson, the orator who looked like a Presbyterian minister and had been hailed as the Savior of Europe. What happened when the three most powerful heads of state gathered to establish a new world order is the subject of this important book. By turns appalling and hilarious, but informed throughout by a tragic sense of irony, this book is at once a work of art and a relentless disclosure of human beings caught in the process of making their own history." Very light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, soft crease down spine, faint tiny foxing marks on edge of text block - mainly top edge, small light soiling mark in bottom margin of page 101. Dust jacket has light edge wrinkling - mainly at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, very small light stain under laminate of front flap - text is legible, light foxing on inside top edge - mainly on front panel, minor edge wear, minor rubbing.
