"The Harvard Forest models were designed to portray, first, the history of the central New England forests, beginning with the first white settlement in Petersham; second, the silvic ultural practices developed at the Harvard Forest for application to local forest conditions; and, third, certain allied functions of modern forestry. The last-mentioned include a model on wildlife management, another on the control of so i l e r o s i o n , and two models on forest fires, to emphasize the wastefulness of developing forests only to have them destroyed by human carelessness...." Interior - hand-written ink date correction in text of page 6, otherwise clean and tight w it h n o ot he r ow ne rship marks. Exterior - very light soiling, a few tiny faint water spots. Very Good

"Edna Jaques was born in Collingwood, in Ontario on the shore of the Georgian Bay. Her father, Captain Charles Jaques, sai led with the old Northern Navigation Co. for years, but one day announced to his astonished family that he was leaving the water and taking to the land. They were going homesteading in Saskatchewan. To a homestead in Saskatchewan, thirty m i l e s s o u theast of Moose Jaw the family came in 1902 and proceeded to farm, making every mistake greenhorns ever made, but these were the good years when the prairie gave forth its increase without much coaxing. Edna Jaques has a way with h er . M en a n d wo me n feel the magnetism of her presence. She has not seen life from the side lines. There is a choking realism in her poems that makes her phrases glow and burn and through all her work, there shines like a thread of purest go ld, h er lov e o f be aut y, her hunger and thirst for everything that is sweet and honest and kindly."
