'SHREK!' can be found in this collection of six modern picture-books classics by Steig, along with stories concerning creatures ordinary and extraordinary - from Irene, a brave and loving little girl who must battle a howling blizzard, to Spinky, a boy who is so completely annoyed by his family that he no longer has any use for the human race. Gathered together here for the first time, these entertaining stories will delight fans of Steig, both old and new." LAUGHING GAS., Wodehouse, P.G. (Pelham Grenville.)
10 Wodehouse, P.G. (Pelham Grenville.) LAUGHING GAS.
McCelland & Stewart, Toronto, (1936), first Canadian edition.
311 pp, small 8vo (7 3/4" h), hard cover (orange cloth with black lettering on spine and front board) - no dust jacket. "Dirty work in the Fourth Dimension was the cause of all the trouble. Somebody slipped up badly, the wires became crossed and an 'identity-switch' resulted. Briefly the facts were these. B.K. Burwash and I.J. Zizzbaum, fang-wrenching rivals of high repute, simultaneously performed their miracles of dental surgery on Joey Cooley, Hollywood's famous child star, and Reginald, third Earl of Havershot. And it was during the brief space of time that the gas administered by Messrs. Burwash and Zizzbaum was doing its stuff and the patients' liberated souls were hob-nobbing in the Fourth Dimension, that the dirty work took place. Reginald returned to consciousness in the diminutive, if decorative, body of the child star, whilst the soul of young Cooley had been parked in the massive frame of the third Earl. And so the trouble began!" Interior - very light browning to endpapers. Exterior - moderate browning and light foxing to edges of textblock, three small stains on top of textblock, light to moderate edge wear, small bump to corners, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, slight fraying at top of spine, light fading and wrinkling on spine, four tiny faint white marks on front board. Good reading copy.
