2 Davis, Kenneth S. DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER: SOLDIER OF DEMOCRACY.
New York Konecky & Konecky 156852059X / 9781568520599 Reprint Hard Cover Very Good+ Very Good+
566 pp, 9 1/2" H. Undated reprint of the 1945 edition, c1999. A volume in the "Leaders of Our Time" series. "On June 6, 1944, a decisive day in the history of the Western World, the radio had been blaring reports of the progress of American troops on the Normandy beachhead since long before dawn. The man whose portrait is examined in this book had reached the supreme moment of his career. This work is a first hand account of Dwight D. Eisenhower from his early years in Texas through his military service in World War II. It documents his training at West Point, his tour of duty in WWI and then his meteoric rise as war leader and stateman in World War II. Extensive interviews that the author conducted with Eisenhower in London in the days leading up to the Normandy invasion shed new light on the strategic thinking that lay behind the momentous plans that were then being formulated. They also provide an intimate look at Eisenhower the man and the deeply held sense of values that would see him through the war and then later inform his tenure as president of the United States." Minor browning at top edge of spine, very light wrinkling at bottom of spine. Dust jacket has very small dent on front hinge.

OVER TO TUNIS: THE COMPLETE STORY OF THE NORTH AFRICAN CAMPAIGN., Marshall, Howard.
4 Marshall, Howard. OVER TO TUNIS: THE COMPLETE STORY OF THE NORTH AFRICAN CAMPAIGN.
London Eyre & Spottiswoode 1943 First Edition Hard Cover Good Fair Maps by L. Potter.
168 pp, 8 3/4" H. Map endpapers + 14 additional b&w maps. "It was Howard Marshall's job to broadcast the Tunisian campaign to the world. No other eye-witness not an actual protagonist has so complete a knowledge of the facts, and in this book he is able to give what could obviously not be given in a broadcast commentary - a balanced, comprehensive and outspoken account of both the military and political sides. The book opens with the first landings in November, 1942, and the failure of the first bid for Tunis. It then traces the development of the small original landing force into a magnificent army, and moves in a crescendo towards the final pulverising attack. The author analyses the reasons for the Allied success and the lessons to be derived from it. He deals at length with the political situation: the plots and counterplots of French political parties; the appointment and assassination of Darlan; the problems of General Giraud's administration; the whole confused background of intrigue and conspiracy in Algiers. The author also discusses the problems of broadcasting from a theatre of war, and describes the special complications of the work of a radio reporter." Some tiny light foxing marks on endpapers, darkening and three scratch marks to top of text block, light browning to edges of text block, book is slightly cocked, small bump to top edge of boards, minor soiling, small light stain on spine. Dust jacket has soiling, large piece missing from top of spine and part of rear panel, several small edge chips and tears, small piece missing from middle of spine, light edge wrinkling, moderate edge wear on spine.

THE FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION 1872-1914. OSPREY MEN-AT-ARMS SERIES 461., Windrow, Martin.
7 Windrow, Martin. THE FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION 1872-1914. OSPREY MEN-AT-ARMS SERIES 461.
Oxford Osprey 2010 1849083266 / 9781849083263 First Edition Soft Cover Fine Mike Chappell, colour plates.
48 pp, 9 3/4" H. B&w photographs, drawings, maps, 8 pages of colour uniform studies. "Following the Franco-Prussian War, the Foreign Legion was the strongest and the only all-volunteer white infantry regiment in the French Army. With Algeria pacified by the early 1880s, it provided expeditionary units for France's campaigns of colonial expansion in Vietnam and Africa in the 1880s-1900s, and these hard-bitten mercenaries earned such a reputation for edurance that the Legion was steadily tripled in size to 12 large battalions. This book describes the organization, campaigns and uniforms of the Legion's 'golden age', illustrated with many rare images and meticulously detailed colour plates of uniforms and equipment." Interior - clean and tight with no previous ownership marks. Exterior - clean and tight.
