2 Bryan, Liz. THE BUFFALO PEOPLE: PREHISTORIC ARCHAEOLOGY ON THE CANADIAN PLAINS.
Edmonton University of Alberta Press 1991 0888642210 / 9780888642219 First Edition Very Good
215 pp, 9" H. B&w and colour photographs, b&w drawings/diagrams. "The prehistoric nomadic inhabitants of Canada had no writing, no large settlements, and very little in the way of lasting material things. Before Europeans came to North America they had no guns, no horses, no hard metals. What clues we have come primarily from the work of archaeologists sifting through the buried evidence - little bits of stone and bone and pottery, refuse heaps and fire pits, ancient villages and burials, fingerprints and prehistoric blood. Yet theirs is a long and triumphant story of survival, a story that is even now just beginning to be told." Interior - clean and tight with no previous ownership marks. Exterior - very minor edge wear, two small minoe corner creases, very slight lean to spine.

QUEST FOR FRANKLIN., Wright, Noel.
8 Wright, Noel. QUEST FOR FRANKLIN.
Heinemann, London, 1959, first edition.
258 pp, 8vo (8 11/16" H), hard cover in dust jacket. B&w plates, maps. "....gives a background account of Arctic exploration from the sixteenth century onwards and sets out such facts about Franklin's disappearance as have been discovered by the v arious relief and search parties. It is an exciting and moving story in which official incompetence and indifference contrasts strongly with Lady Franklin's gallant and persistent attempts to find her husband. But 'Quest for Franklin' is n o t o n l y a history and an adventure story; it is also an inquiry and an appeal. For Admiral Wright believes that the known facts have never before been properly examined and correlated, and he is suspicious of the slurs that have been cast o n th e h ig hl y ex p erienced officers who led the Franklin expedition. And so he draws his own conclusions, and makes a call for a further effort to find the cache in which he is convinced there lie valuable scientific information and conclusive ev ide nc e of wha t hap pe nd to Franklin. (This) is indeed one of the most intriguing books ever to deal with man's pursuit of knowledge in the Arctic seas." Very light browning to pages - a few light foxing marks on first/last few pages, previo us owne r's n ame /dat e on f ree front endpaper, small area of surface paper loss on front pastedown, browning and foxing on edges of textblock, light edge wear. Dust jacket has large piece missing from bottom of spine, several chips and tears, bro wning , li ght soi ling, f ading to spine color. Good/Poor
