This time it was right, it would work, and no-one would have to get nailed to anything. Sadly, however, before she could get to a phone to tell anyone about it the Earth was unexpectedly demolished to make way for a new hyperspace by-pass, and so the idea was lost forever. This is not her story - . (Well at) least partly - . Arthur Dent finds her in the last place in the universe he would expect to find anything but which 3,976,000,000 people will find oddly familiar - ." Another Fine Myth - 200 pp, 1984 3rd printing, ISBN 0441023606 - "Skeeve was a magician's apprentice, until an assassin hired by an ancient enemy struck and his master was dead. Skeeve suddenly found himself alone with Aahz, a purple-tongued demon the old magician had summoned from another dimension as a practical joke just before he was killed. Aahz had lost his powers, Skeeve had lost his job. So together, they set out through a universe populated by Deveels (or devils), Imps, dragons, unicorns and more, looking for a way to get even." 2. Myth Conceptions - 217 pp, 1986 5th printing, ISBN 0441555209 - "Skeeve was summoned to the court of Roderick the Fifth of Possiltum to audition for the position of Court Magician. Unfortunately for everyone, he got the job. How was Aahz going to help Skeeve defend a kindgom against the mightiest invading army in the world? With his pet dragon Gleep and bewitching green-haired Tanda standing by, Skeeve waited for Aahz to come up with a solution. The problem was, if they won they would be executed - and if they lost they would be killed. What kind of magik could beat those odds?" 3. Myth Directions - 202 pp, 1985 1st printing, ISBN 044155525X - "The Trophy was unique, no question. It was easily the ugliest object Skeeve had ever seen in any dimension. And before landing his job as Court Magician, young Skeeve had seen a thing or two. But Tanda wanted it - and, as a rule, whatever the beautiful Tanda wants, Tanda gets. The problem is, getting it will take more than luck. It will take all the talents of a young but gifted magician, a scaley but canny Pervect, and a charming demon not above a little interdimensional thievery." 4. Hit or Myth - 170 pp, 1985 4th printing, ISBN 0441338518 - "King Roderick takes a powder - leaving Skeeve in his place to marry his homicidal fiancee Hemlock and face the tender mercies of Bruce, the Mob's fairy godfather who wants Skeeve working for him - or not at all. On top of that, Aahz has taken a forced vacation, a two-ton demon has a crush of Skeeve, and both Possiltum and Deva are about to be invaded." 5. Mything Persons - 172 pp, 1987 2nd printing, ISBN 0441552765 - "(Skeeve's) partner Aahz has disappeared and it looks like foul play. Finding Aahz ought to be a snap for a talented magician like Skeeve, especially with a sassy apprentice and a dumb but brawny bodyguard along for the ride. The trouble is, they're sleuthing in another dimension: a strange and chilly realm where day is night and humans are considered monsters. Add a murder rap, a couple of vampires, and the fact that magic doesn't work here, and you've got a trio in real hot water!" 6. Little Myth Marker - 167 pp, 1987 1st printing, ISBN 0441484999 - "(Skeeve) bluffs his way into a high-stakes game of dragon poker and, by some miracle, wins. Then, still flush with luck, (he) heads straight for the king of dragon poker, the Sen-Sen Ante Kid. And with a pot of half a million, there'd better not be any myth-deals. But even if Skeeve can hold his own in a high-stakes game, there's still Markie. Left as a pint-sized IOU by a player who went broke, she conjures a house full of trouble every time she tries to cast a spell. And to top it off, jealous magicians have hired the notorious assassin, The Axe, to cut more than the deck - ." Interiors - pages and some inside of covers have light to moderate browning, volume 3 has one page with small corner crease and volume 4 has two pages with small corner creases. Exteriors - some edges of text blocks have very light browning, slight browning to spines of four volumes, very light edge wear, volume 2 has a very light spine crease, volume 1 has a small faint stain on the bottom of the text block, volume 5 has a very small number stamped on bottom of text block, two volumes have slight spine lean. 7 Beckett, Ian F.W., editor. THE ARMY AND THE CURRAGH INCIDENT, 1914. PUBLICATIONS OF THE ARMY RECORDS SOCIETY VOL. 2.
Bodley Head / Army Records Society, London, 1986, first edition.
456 pp, 8vo (8 3/4" H), hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 0370307380 "The events at the Curragh Camp near Dublin on 20/21 March 1914, and the drama continued in London over the following nine days, have a special significance in British military his tory. The outline of the story is well enough known: Brig.-General Hubert Gough and fellow-officers in the 3rd Cavalry Brigade threatened to resign rather than implement what seemed to them a policy of coercing Ulster into accepting Irish H o m e R u l e ; Gough secured a written guarantee from J.E.B. Seely, Secretary of State for War, that the army would not be so employed; Asquith's Liberal cabinet, however, repudiated the guarantee, which led Seely to resign, along with the Chie f o f th e I mp er ia l General Staff Field Marshal Sir John French and the Adjutant General Lt-General Sir John Spencer Ewart. Although sometimes erroneously referred to as a 'Mutiny', the Curragh Incident does remain one of the very few occasion s in mo der n ti mes wh en th e army asserted itself in face of the civil power in peacetime....The Incident has hitherto generally been seen in terms either of a Liberal plot to coerce Ulster or of a military plot to thwart the democratic process. By emp hasi si ng the wide r i mpa ct of the Incident on the army, this selection of original documents illuminates a number of aspects that have gone unremarked. The army's increasing concern that it might be drawn into civil war in Ulster is ill u str ated , and th e a ccep ted v ersi on o f events in Ireland and London is shown in a new light. New evidence shows the impact of the Curragh Incident on the army outside Ireland, and on the Royal Navy's attitude. The common assumption that A sq uith 's as suming the off ice o f Secr etary of S tate for War on 31 March 1914 closed the Incident is shown here to be false - the morale of the army and the officer corps continued to be affected by the Incident and its aftermath right up to th e out break of the Great War. (Thi s book) throw s impo rtant new light both on British militay history and the ever present Irish 'problem'." 253 pp, mass market paperback. B&w photographs. "They were feared, hated and respected as one of the premier divisions of the Waffen SS, wearing the sinister silver insignia of the Death's Head on the collar of their black uniforms, to signify 'SS Totenkopf Division'. One of the most powerful and destructive military forces in history, many in its ranks began their training not in military academies but as concentration camp guards. Their brutal architect was Alsatian-born former psychiatric-clinic inmate Theodor Eike, who rose to become the ruthless, indomitable commander of the 3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf. In the early days of the war in Russia, the Division covered itself with glory for Hitler as a cruel, fearless technician of war. Four volume set, 6 7/8" H. 1. The Far Kingdoms - 439 pp, 1994 1st printing, ISBN 0345380568 - "a place of bright sunlight and magic, where wine and song were always sweet, every purse was fat with gold, and every heart at ease. (It was) said to lie in the distant east, across the straits of the Narrow Sea, beyond the benighted Pepper Coast, in uncharted territory. Young, pampered Amalric Antero cared only for real places and possible dreams. But then he meet Janos Greycloak, a dashing soldier who dabbled in forbidden magic and who carried on him proof of riches and mysteries beyond imagination. And suddenly Amalric found himself setting out on the adventure of a lifetime, a daring and perilous quest through unknown lands peopled by nightmares, to seek the ultimate in fables." 2. The Warrior's Tale - 471 pp, 1995 3rd printing, ISBN 0345387341 - Captain Rali Emilie Antero came from an illustrious family of traders, wizards, and adventurers. But Rali cared little for magic, and even less for journeying. She was a soldier, captain of the elite Maranon Guard, staunch defenders of the magestic city of Orissa. But her family legacy was about to catch up with her. For the Guard's latest mission was sheer suicide: a sea-going odyssey in search of an evil master wizard - the last Archon of Lycanth - who had fled with an secret doomsday spell that could destroy all of civilization. It would be Rali's greatest challenge: a desperate pursuit, raging across the great Western Sea to the fire reefs that marked the end of the world - and beyond, to places unmarked even in legend." 3. Kingdoms of the Night - 436 pp, 1996 first printing, ISBN 0345387325 - "Ever since Amalric Antero returned from the legendary Far Kingdoms, bringing with him magic and riches, the people of Orissa believed they lived in a golden age. Even Amalric did not suspect the truth: that dark forces from another world threatened his beloved city. Then a beautiful stranger arrived claiming to be the great-granddaughter of Janos Greycloak, master-wizard and betrayer of Amalric's youth. And Amalric learned that the idyllic lands he had thought were the Far Kingdoms were not - and that the real Far Kingdoms, The Kingdoms of the Night, were all that stood between civilization and unimaginably evil powers from another world. But now the strength of the Kingdoms was flagging. Only someone with a stout heart and a legacy of magic flowing through his veins - someone like Amalric Antero - could hope to unravel the secrets of the Old Ones and lock the door between realities once and for all. And so Amalric set out, with little more than his wits and the magic of another Greycloak, to find the Kingdoms of the Night." 4. The Warrior Returns - 440 pp, 1997 1st printing, ISBN 0345413121 - "All of Orissa believed that Rali Emilie Antero, legendary warrior and sorceress extraordinaire, was dead, lost at sea during some grand adventure gone wrong. In fact, Rali was not dead, but left entombed in ice to dream for eternity - until a goddess needed her for one last quest. Novari, a beautiful succubus intent on achieving ultimate power, had swept the world by storm. All the Anteros has been assassinated - save one: a golden, magical child named Emilie. Novari had succeeded in taking Orissa. Now she had only to seize little Emilie, as well. She never counted on the return of Rali Antero - ." 356 pp, 6 3/4" H. "Since the end of the war, there had always been bigotry against non-humans in TunFaire. Even though many species had sacrificed in battle, some groups of humans thought the 'Golden Rule' translated to 'Humans rule. Now give us your gold'. With the streets descending into bloody race riots, and the organized 'human' brotherhoods flexing both physical and economic muscle, TunFaire was a hairsbreadth from total chaos. Garrett is a wise-guy private investigator who speaks loudly and carries a big stick. He gets pulled into the game when a powerful gang of human rightists starts trying to shake down his employer. Backed by a circle of friends no one would wish on their worst enemy - and a foul-mouthed parrot that won't shut up - Garrett is caught in a conspiracy of hate that pits man against - everybody!" Interior - clean and tight with no previous ownership marks. Exterior - minor corner wear.
