416 pp, 16mo (6 1/8" H), thin burgundy leather over card covers/spine - gold lettering and decoration on spine, top edge gilt - in slipcase. Burgundy endpapers, integral ribbon bookmark, sepiatone plates, including frontispiece. One of the 'Waverley Novels', a tale of tragic romance, insanity, attempted murder, duels and death as two lovers, Lucy Ashton and Edgar Ravenswood, have their engagement thwarted by the ambitious Lady Ashton. Very small business label on bottom of free front endpaper, previous owner's name in ink on half-title page, light toning to page margins, light browning to fore-edge of text block, very light edge wear - more at corners, tiny scuff on rear cover, slight fading to spine colour. Slipcase has areas of light to moderate edge wear, areas of light fading, a few small stains, light rubbing.
