Burgundy endpapers, sepiatone plates, including frontispiece, decorated title page. Sequel to 'The Monastery', the story revolves around Mary Queen of Scots' imprisonment at Loch Leven Castle. Previous owner's name in ink on half-title page, very light wear at corners, spine and hinges are dull compared to covers, slight lightness to spine colour, very small split at top of front hinge, a few tiny light scuffs on front cover. Slipcase has light edge wear, moderate rubbing on panels, top panel is convex and has a split in top rear edge, split in one bottom side edge.
