Some musical notation in text. "In the following pages I have endeavoured to describe a summer journey I made alone on foot in Spain, earning my living as a wandering minstrel. In Spain the wandering minstrel has had a long and honoured tradition ever since the Middle Ages when the 'juglar' wandered from castle to castle reciting the epic poems. A modern 'juglar' has to wear a tighter belt and a more ragged coat than in the golden days of long ago, but he may still get his eye full as well as his ear full, and as he saunters through the countryside his mind becomes enriched with many a golden sentence and tune."
