132 pp, 8 5/8" H. B&w decorations. Inscribed on title page: Arohanui, / Witi". "(T)he first collection of short stories by a Maori writer to be published. (This) is Witi Ihimaera's distinctive view of rural Maori life. It deals with happiness and sadness and always, with aroha. It is his personal vision of Maori life as it is now and of its values now. It has been written both with anger and with love - aroha - in the hope that such a life, the values of that life, will never be lost." Contents: A Game of Cards; Beginning of the Tournament; The Makutu on Mrs Jones; Fire on Greenstone; The Other Side of the Fence; In Search of the Emerald City; One Summer Morning; The Child; The Whale; Tangi. Very small bump at top edge of rear board and at top/bottom of spine, soft wrinkling at top corner of page leaf 107/108, several pages with small light wrinkles at bottom edge - two with very tiny chip, tiny crease at bottom corner of page 1 to 14, some small soft wrinkles on preliminary pages. Dust jacket has light to moderate edge wear/creasing - mainly at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, a few tiny scuffs, a few small edge tears archivally taped, minor rubbing, now protected in a mylar sleeve.
