Deep red cloth with gilt lettering/banding/decoration on spine and front board, top edge gilt. 28 tissue-covered colour plates (including frontispiece), mounted on beige stock with borders and captions (collated). Contents: Preface; On Japanese Gardens in General; Japanese Gardening History; Gardening Principles; Garden Stones; Garden Accessories (Lanterns and Pagodas); Garden Fences and Hedges; Garden Architecture (Gates, Summer-Houses, and Bridges); Wells, Water-Basins, etc.; Landscape Gardens; Green Gardens; Water Gardens and Dried-up Water Scenery; Miniature Gardens; Some Particular Gardens; Flower Arrangement; Garden Folk-Lore and Legends - (I); Ditto (2); Flower Festivals; The Four Seasons of Flowers. Light wrinkling and wear at top/bottom of spine; light wear at board corners; light toning to fore-edge and bottom of text block; front free endpaper has small creases at top corner, one tiny edge tear archiavally taped and a tiny hole at bottom corner; very small hole in tissue of plate opposite page 244 - piece is glued to margin of page 244; rear free endpaper has small creases at top/bottom corner and a tiny hole at top corner - tiny hole a top corner of preceeding page also; paper is split on inside rear hinge but holding firmly.
