188 pp, 7 3/8" H. Dark green cloth with black lettering, red, yellow and black decoration on spine and front board. No date. 34 full page b&w illustrations plus additional vignettes (collated). Victorian boys' adventure in South Africa where nature is definitely 'red in tooth and claw' with attacks on both men and beasts by enormous lions, elephants, leopards, rhinoceros, hippopotamus and, of course, the traders themselves. Very light browning or toning to some page margins, inside hinge paper is split - hinge fabric is still strong, light separation between some page gatherings but they are still firm in the binding, several very small stains in margins of pages 176/177, title page and page 188 are moderately browned, corner crease on page 69, areas of light browning on rear endpapers, one tiny corner bump, tiny bump at bottom of dutter of some pages, browning to edges of text block, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, very light edge wear. Book is protected in a stiff mylar sleeve.
