335 pp + (12) pp publisher's catalog, 7 1/2" H. Medium brown cloth-covered boards with blind-stamped decoration, gilt lettering/decoration on spine. Publisher's advertising on endpapers. Title page continues: "Containing Model Speeches for All Occasions, with Directions How to Deliver Them. 500 Toasts and Sentiments for Everybody, and Their Proper Mode of Introduction. How to use wine at table, with rules for judging the quality of wine, and rules for carving. Etiquette; or, proper behavior in company, with an American code of politeness for every occasion; and etiquette at Washington. Remarkable wit and conversation at table, etc., etc., to which are added, the Duties of Chairmen of Public Meetings, and rules for the orderly conduct thereof, together with valuable hints and examples for drawing up preambles and resolutions." Subjects covered include: American's Toast to the Queen of England; Balls in Washington; Deportment in the Street; How to call on the President of the United States; Masonic Toasts, Naval and Military Toasts; On Dress; Opinion of Lord Byron on Eating; Port Wine; Road-maker's Toast; Strong-minded Women; Sam Slick's Speech on the Clergy; Niagara Falls; Speech on Prize-fighting; Table Wit; Speech of an Undertaker; Art of Drinking Wine, etc. Fading to spine color and very light fading to edges of boards, light edge wear - one corner has moderate wear, some darkening and tiny faint foxing marks on edges of text block, small edge tear on front free endpaper - archivally taped, small tear on inside front hinge, previous owner's embossed name stamp on title page, two very small stains on page 5, a few tiny stains on some pages throughout book.
