253 pp, large 8vo (9" H). Bound in blocked and printed parchment with gilt lettering on spine, dark blue endpapers. Plain dark blue slipcase. Beautifully illustrated with color reproductions from illuminated manuscripts, photographs. Investigates the lives of six medieval people. Contents: The Precursors; The Peasant Bodo (Life on a Country Estate in the Time of Charlemagne); Marco Polo (A Venetian Traveller of the Thirteenth Century); Madame Eglentyne (Chaucer's Prioress in Real Life); The Menagier's Wife (A Paris Housewife in the Fourteenth Century); Thomas Betson (A Merchant of the Staple in the Fifteenth Century); Thomas Paycocke of Coggeshall (An Essex Clothier in the Days of Henry VII); Notes and Sources. Book is Fine. Slipcase has very minor rubbing, small slight bump at top of one front side edge.
