"(P)resents a memorable portrait of a land and its people, capturing the essence of the Arctic and of Eskimo lore. The reader meets Koonar, the first intruder from the world of the whites, who bore a strange and powerful gift to the Innuit (the People). And Angutna, who was Brother to Kipmik, the white fox - and who paid a terible price for that. Arnuk, the lost Husky, and the lone wolf. Kala, who survived by means of an act of desperation. Nakusiak, who was washed ashore on a Scottish island. These figures and many others swell to life-like proportions through the accomplished prose of Farley Mowat. Poignant in its depiction of a way of life that is no more, (it) is sure to be counted among (his) finest contributions to Canadian literature." Previous owner's name in ink on front free endpaper, a few very light finger marks in margins of pages, minor wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket is price-clipped, has light edge wear/wrinkling - mainly at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, very light rubbing, a few tiny edge tears - some with creases, tiny ink mark at bottom edge of front flap and front panel, protected in a mylar sleeve.
