Bound in full blue cloth, spine titling/decoration in gold, design in red and gold on front board by Bawden; red endpapers. Each volume contains a half-title page and frontispiece linocut by Bawden and there are over sixty smaller linocuts throughout the set. "The text is based on the Winchester manuscript of the 'Works of Thomas Malory', edited by Eugene Vinaver in 1954 and revised in 1971." Volume I comprises: The Tale of King Arthur (Merlin / Balin, or The Knight with the Two Swords / Tor and Pellinor / The War with the Five Kings / Arthur and Accolon / Gawaine, Uwaine and Marhalt); The Tale of King Arthur that was Emperor Himself through Dignity of his Hands; A Noble Tale of Sir Lancelot du Lake; and, The Tale of Sir Gareth of Orkney.
