12 volumes of "Journey Through New England: A Guide", dating from 1964 to 1975, each approx. 8 1/2" H and containing between 123 to 128 pages. The first volume is inscribed on the page titled "A Welcome": "For Clinton Toms / With every good wish - / Mary G. Bowden." B&w photographs, reproductions, advertisements for local businesses. Articles about local history, architecture, art, artists, antiques, towns & cities, museums, authors, etc., including Early American Silver / Mary Baker Eddy and Her Church / Winslow Homer at Prouts Neck / Monhegan Island / The Clipper Ship / Newburysport Illustrated / The Ship Building Town of Essex / Baking in a Brick Oven / Phillis Wheatly, America's First Black Poetess / Melville Comes to New Bedford / Benedict Arnold and the March to Quebec / Norman Rockwell - Noted Portraitist of America / Portland Glass / Emily Dickinson, Journey into Immortality / The Art of the Colonial Cabinet Maker / The Wreck of the Palatine, A Winter's Tale / Augustus Saint Gaudens and the Cornish Colony / Colonel John Stark and That Unlucky Affair at Bennington, etc., etc. Interiors - Vol 1 has a soft small crease at top corner of last four page leaves, light water stain at top inside edge of rear cover; vol 11 has a very small crease to fore-edge of pages 89 to 94; otherwise all volumes are clean and tight with no other ownership marks. Exteriors - Vol 1 has water stain at top 1" edge of rear cover, light soiling to rear cover, small areas of faint scuffing and some light toning on spine; vol 2 has light soiling on rear cover; vol 3 has some light rubbing and tiny scuff (last letter missing in 'A Guide') and wrinkling on spine, small price label on front cover; vol 6 has a small price label on front cover; vol 9 has a tiny light stain at top of front hinge; vol 10 has tiny bump to top of rear hinge; vol 12 has minor browning at top /bottom edges of covers; very minor edge wear to some volumes.
