99 pp, 10 1/2" H. Black cloth spine with gilt lettering, gray paper covered boards with red lettering & decoration on front board. Colour frontispiece, b&w drawings. Stories of conflicts between the native peoples and white explorers/settlers in British Columbia during the 19th century. Contents: Preface; The Price of Safety; Kendrick's Laundry; The White Slave of Slaves; The Captive Armourer; Treachery at Fort St. John; New Caledonia Conflict; Attack at Fort McLoughlin; Finlayson's Strategy; Fort Rupert Murders; The Basis of Freedom; Hell's Gate Aflame; Massacre at Ganges; The Salt Whisky War; The Defiance of Ot-chee-wun; The Chilcotin War; The Pirates of Clayoquot; The Obstinacy of Chief Jim; When Chief Isadore Ran Riot; Notes. Previous owner's bookplate and a small Christmas gift inscription on front free endpaper, small bump at bottom of rear board, a few faint line indentations on front board, minor browning to edges of boards, some very small foxing marks and a small faint liquid mark on rear board, very light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine.
