"Since the North-West Mounted Police first rode onto the plains in 1874 the Force's duties and responsibilities have undergone many changes. In recognition of its services, the prefix 'Royal' was added to its title in 1904 by King Edward VII. Sixteen years later, when it became responsible for federal policing throughout Canada, it was changed again to 'Royal Canadian Mounted Police'. In these early reports readers will find first hand accounts of many of the stirring incidents which shaped the history of the West, written by those who actually participated in them. The Indian Treaties, the influx of the American Sioux under Sitting Bull, the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway, the North-West Rebellion, and the coming of the settlers are just a few of the dramatic events in which the North-West Mounted Police played an important part." Interiors- clean and tight with no previous ownership marks. Exteriors- very light edge wear - mainly at top/bottom of spines, volume 2 has some light wear on rear hinge, volume 4 has a tiny bump at top of spine.
