455 pp, 9 3/8" H. Brick-coloured cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Map endpapers, b&w photographs, maps, drawings, reproductions, plus 23 colour plates (collated), including 19 full-page portraits of 'types' (many in national costume) and 4 with two illustrations per page showing people, buildings and landscapes. "This is the first comprehensive account of the contributions made to Canadian history and culture by some twenty-five European races. The plan which the author has adopted is to trace the history of each racial group from its original home in Europe, accentuating those incidents that show relationships between such races in Europe previous to their coming to Canada. The history has been documented so far as possible with quotations from contemporary records. The text incorporates the words of the ballads recently broadcasted by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in the series of musical talks conducted by (the author)." Chapters cover United States, France, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Scandinavia, Eastern Baltic, Poland, Ukraine, Czechoslovakia, the Balkans, Hungary, Russia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Hebrew, concluding with "Cement for the Canadian Mosaic". Small soft crease at top corner of pages 279 to304, small crease at top corner of illustration page opposite page 280, minor shelf soiling on bottom of text block & boards, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket has moderate edge wear/creasing, small tears with old tape on inside edges, light browning and foxing on spine, darkening to top edge, light soiling/rubbing.
