351 pp, 8" H. Dark green cloth with gold lettering on spine, blindstamped 'We Didn't Mean to go to Sea' on front board. Map endpapers, b&w drawings. The seventh book in the Swallows and Amazons series. "(T)he record of an uncovenanted voyage, which ended in Holland, of the rain and the wind, the darkness and the wild water, the escapes from buoys and from ships crossing in the night, the courage and resource of the children." Harold Spring. Xmas gift inscription, dated 1945, on verso of frontispiece, book is lightly cocked, very light browning to edges of textblock, light color fading at top edge of boards and at bottom of spine/hinges, two tiny corner bumps. Dust jacket small chips/tears - mainly at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, some insect damage on spine, browning to spine and lighter at edges.
