"This is a story of old Russia, when that faraway land was ruled by the jolly Tzar Saltan. It is the story of lovely young Militrissa who became the Tzar's bride and of Nastasia, her jealous sister, who plotted against her with their wicked nurse, Barbarischa. For a time their schemes were successful, and poor Militrissa and her little son, Prince Guidon, were tossed on the sea for many days and nights with only a barrel as their boat. How they were finally saved and how the young Prince was magically transformed into a bumble bee is all told in this exciting book. Based on an original poem by Alexander Pushkin, this bright, fanciful fairy tale has been brought joyously to life by the Junior Programs opera, 'The Bumble Bee Prince'. The opera, with its beautiful Rimsky-Korsakov music, is a favorite of children everywhere. This book follows its action closely and includes many of the principal musical themes." The first b&w illustration (the heading for Chapter One) has been fairly neatly colored in by a previous owner - all other illustrations are untouched. Light edge wear (light to moderate at corners), small bump to bottom corner of boards. Dust jacket has light to moderate edge wear/wrinkling, several small edge tears, small chips at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, light to moderate soiling on rear panel, light browning to inside surface, old price stamped at top of rear flap, crease down spine, protected in a mylar sleeve.
