"For forty years (John Young) has painted the rich pag eant of colour and atmosphere which surrounds aeroplanes. Having been initially fired with enthusiasm as a child by Alan Cobham's Flying Circus and spent his schooldays under skies filled with the planes of the Second World War, he went to a r t s c h o ol and then into the RAF for National Service. All the time he was developing his artistic skills, and taking every opportunity to combine his painting with his great love of the flying machine. In a constant search for authenticit y , he h a s tr av el led across the world and flown in more than sixty types of aircraft. This book is a portfolio of John Young's finest work, with more than forty large colour plates and numerous black and white illustrations featuring aircraft f ro m b efo re t he Fir st World War, biplanes for military and sporting use, heavy bombers, sleek fighters, modern military jets and airliners. In his own words, he tells the absorbing story of his early struggles and adventures, and offers an ins igh t in to t he cre ati on o f h is oil paintings."
