283 pp, 8vo (8 1/4" H), hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 0861164709 "....a story about the men who were allocated the honour of being the first British troops to land in Korea and consequently spearheaded the advance of the United Nations Forces fo r the next 140 miles before being forced back by the hordes of Chinese 'volunteers' who poured into North Korea just when it seemed that the war was about over. It is not a biography of the 1st Argylls, it is simply a story based on the Regim e n t w h ich fought so valiantly in that far off land and gained the distinction of winning the first Victoria Cross to be awarded in that war. The book outlines the cruel winter conditions which these tough Highlanders had to cope with without b ei ng e q ui pp ed with winter clothing. The humour, pathos and horror of war have been clearly outlined in this story and will clearly refresh the memory of any ex-soldier who served in that theatre. Many biographies have been written about prac tic all y e ve ry Reg iment that served in the Korean War, all by professional writers, this story is a 'Voice from the Ranks' as it were, a story written by a Ranker." A fictionalized narrative with the following disclaimer: "This is a story which rev olve s ar oun d o ne S ection of men who lived and died fighting with the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in Korea in 1950/51. Their names and characteristics are completely fictional and any resemblance to any person living or dead is purely coinc ident al."
