"In January 1979, Victorian Britain was horrified by the news of the disaster at Isandhlwana, where the Zulus surprised and massacred a British Army column of over 1,300 men. This defeat was followed by the heroic defence of the mission station at Rorke's Drift where no less than eleven Victoria Crosses were won. After minor set backs, British columns rapidly advanced into Zululand and after fighting a number of major battles, occupying strategic positions en route, they subsequently fought and won the decisive battle of Ulundi, where the real military power of the Zulu nation was ended forever. This volume contains: Cabinet photographs and biographical notices of sixty-two officers of the British Army and Navy who lost their lives during the campaign, including that of Lieutenant Thirkill of the 88th Regt., which did not appear in the original edition of 1880; Summaries of all the British Regiments and Naval Brigades in the field; Separate records of almost every British Officer engaged; Accurate accounts of the various engagements; Maps etc." "A significant feature of this new edition is an extensive index compiled by Anglo-Zula War historian John Young, giving the name, rank and unit designation of every officer, and the battles at which they fought". Light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, a few soft creases on fold-out. Dust jacket has light edge wrinkling, tiny dent on rear hinge, tiny stain on inside surface, minor wear at top of spine. VG+/VG
