5 Brebeuf, Jean de, Father. THE HURON CAROL.
Toronto Lester & Orpen Dennys 1990 0886192803 / 9780886192808 First Edition Hard Cover Near Fine Near Fine Frances Tyrrell Inscribed by illustrator.
Unpaginated (approx. 32 pp.), 4to (11 1/4" H). INSCRIBED ON HALF-TITLE PAGE BY THE ILLUSTRATOR. Colour illustrations with pictorial border in blue & white. The English translation of a beautiful Christmas carol written by Jesuit missionary, Father Jean de Brebeuf (1593-1649) to help explain the Nativity to the Huron Indians he worked among for twenty-two years. This wonderfully illustrated edition provides the music (including one verse in the old Huron language and two verses in 18th century French) and a background of the carol. I have loved this carol since a child at which time I was fascinated with the concept of mighty Gitchi Manitou (God) sending angel choirs because it was winter and all the birds were gone, and the great chiefs (wise men) bringing 'gifts of fox and beaver pelt'. Tiny scuff on bottom edge of boards. Dust jacket has minor wrinkling along top edge.

"In all the world, there's no place like Halloweenland and Jack Skellington is Halloween's most imp ortant figure. It's Jack who devises Halloween's most macabre tricks and frights, and he's done it year after year with delight. But this year, something isn't quite right: Jack has grown bored with the usual Halloween pranks, and the joy of s e e i n g shock and horror on people's faces has faded. One night, while out for a walk in the woods, Jack stumbles upon something he's never seen before: a strange door carved into a tree. Stepping through the door, Jack stumbles into a world unl ik e an y he's ever known. He finds himself in a bright, cheerful, colorful place called Christmas Town. Immediately captivated by all the Christmas sights - shining tinsel, sparkling lights, gaily wrapped presents, and sweet confections - Jack kn ows t hat h e must somehow find a way to become part of it all. And Santa Claus himself provides the key as Jack decides to bring Christmas to Halloween - with Jack starring in Santa's role!" Minor rubbing on rear board.
