A historical romance of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, intertwined with tales of Herne the Hunter, here portrayed as a spirit of Windsor Forest. Minor corner wear on covers. Slipcase has light to moderate edge wear, a few tiny scuffs, small dark stain on one side panel.

Burgundy endpapers, sepiatone plates, including frontispiece, decorated title page. A novel of intrigue, miserliness, love and hypocrisy, set in Saumur, France in the first half of the 19th century. Gift inscription dated Xmas 1924 on rear of frontispiece. Minor edge wear - mainly at corners, small light scuff on rear cover. Slipcase has moderate corner wear and some areas of light edge wear.

Slipcase has very light wear at corners, some minor rubbing.

The second of the D'Artagnan Romances which began with The Three Musketeers. Remains of publisher's thin plastic 'dust jacket' adhered to front pastedown, with a small area of surface paper removed. Light edge wear with some light color loss, spine is slightly concave, some light line rub marks on covers, slight browning to fore-edge and bottom of text block. Slip case has light edge wear, crease on both side panels, small stains on bottom panel, bump at bottom of spine.
