Gives a brief history of the Hospital of St. Cross, founded in 1136 by Bishop Henry de Blois (a grandson of William the Conqueror), which at the time of printing was still distributing i ts 'Wayfarer's Dole' of a horn of beer and a slice of white bread to, on average, thirty people a day. Shows architectural details and also outlines the management of the institution to date. Interior - small soft bump to top corner of pages , s m a l l bump to bottom of gutters, first page has small piece missing from bottom corner and small crease at gutter. Exterior - bump at bottom of spine, creases at bottom corners of covers, light soiling and rubbing, small piece missing from b ot t om o f sp ine, very light browning, small edge tears (archivally taped) and small soiling mark on rear cover.
