As his other friend, Tony Benskin, observes, 'The patients don 't like you messing about with their wives unless they know you've got one of your own at home'. And of course there has to be someone to answer the telephone, open the door, keep the N.H.S. records, cook the dinner, do the laundry - and protec t h i m from some of his female patients. Dr Gordon's only worry is that the right girl will turn up. She does, but only after an unfortunate love affair which should illustrate to patients the dangers of failling for the same nurse as their doct or .
